In order to view your camera from outside your personal network, we need to ensure requests coming from outside your network to access your camera stream are redirected from your router/firewall to your camera.
To redirect your firewall/router port and allow external access to your camera's RTSP stream, follow these general steps:
Determine your camera's IP address: Use the camera's dedicated app, or check your firewall/router's DHCP table to find the IP address assigned to your camera.
Access your router's interface: Open a web browser and enter your router's IP address in the address bar. This is usually something like "192.168.1.1" or "192.168.0.1". Consult your router's manual or manufacturer's website if you are unsure of the default IP address.
Login to your router: Enter your router's username and password. If you don't have the login credentials, check the router's manual or contact your internet service provider for assistance.
Find the port forwarding settings: Find the "Port Forwarding" or "Virtual Server" in your router's settings. The location and naming may vary depending on the router model and firmware. Refer to your router's documentation for specific instructions.
Create a new port forwarding rule: Add a new port forwarding rule by specifying the following details:
External port: Choose an available port number (e.g., 554) that will be used to access the camera's RTSP stream externally.
Internal IP address: Enter the IP address of your camera obtained in step 1.
Internal port: Set it to the same port number used for the RTSP stream on your camera (usually 554).
Protocol: Select TCP or UDP, or both if available.
Save and apply the settings: Save your new settings and apply the changes. Your router will typically reboot or apply the changes automatically.
By following these steps, you will redirect the specific port to your camera's internal IP address, allowing external access to the camera's RTSP stream. Keep in mind that the exact steps may differ depending on your router's make and model. Consult the router's documentation or internet service provider if you encounter any difficulties.
https://portchecker.co/ can be used to verify if your port has been forwarded properly. If your port is showing as closed, you may need to reboot your camera & router and try again.
Next, update your RTSP URL to include your router's public ip address.
